3/20/2019 0 Comments Why I Plan with JuliaThe final school bell is ringing because this is the last "Why I Plan" of this season! Julia from @theteenageplanner is sharing how she plans as a senior in high school! Just click "Read More"!
2. How did you discover your planner? I was actually searching for a gift in Michaels for someone else...and ended up buying The Happy Planner for myself. Whoops! I still got my friend a gift--don’t worry! I got the six month extension pack, a set of discs, and a snap in hardcover. I went online, watched YouTube videos on starting my planner, and began tracking my homework assignments in it!
9. Why do you plan? I actually wrote a college application essay on this very topic. The prompt of the essay was to write about a community you are apart of and why you continue to be a member of that community. Here’s my essay. I think it captures perfectly WHY I plan. It’s Sunday night, and after thumbing through pages held together by eight rose gold discs, I stare at the blank week in front of me with excitement. I grab four sticker books and start affixing inspirational quotes, checklists, and a rainbow of tiny icons that only I can decode. Some 17-year-old girls like rap music, while others find peace playing instruments or reading books. Me? I plan. What is merely an organizational tool to most is an outlet for my creativity. I belong to the community of #plannerjunkies. We are often depicted as crazy, middle-aged mothers hauling shopping carts through Michael’s on Black Friday. But we’re also crazy optimists as we make our bad days easier and our best days more special by recording them in our Happy Planners. The best part about my Happy Planner is how many opportunities it has for customization: stickers, sticky notes, bookmarks. I’ve been able to make it my planner as I juggle homework, extracurriculars, exercise, and which parent’s house I’m staying at. Sometimes I look at the blank pages and feel overwhelmed. In those times, when I might be worried about an upcoming math test or angry about an argument, I turn to the community of planners who inspire me with their artistry and functionality. My planner is ever-present. As the first thing I reach for in every period, my planner is the bodyguard that helps me tackle in-class essays and National Honors Society blood drives. It may not be cool to request stickers for my seventeenth birthday, but I don’t care. When I open my Instagram feed to find those posts that read “You got this, Girl” and “Just do the next thing,’’ I’m reminded why I bought my first planner: because it makes me happy and motivated to chase my dreams.
Great responses Julia! Thank you to everyone who has been following along for this season of Why I Plans! These are the last interviews for season 3, but "Why I Plan" will be back in the future!
