I get the question, "How do you plan out your homework and actually get it done?" a lot so I decided to do a blog post on it! I am not a procrastinator, so some of these habits come naturally to me but don't fear! After some practice and discipline, you will be cranking out that homework like a champ! Click "Read More" to read some of my tips and tricks to planning out homework and getting it done! *A LITTLE NOTE* I wrote this blog post all the way back in August, so these tips may need to be slightly modified for the current circumstances! The KeyAs soon as I see a new assignment on the board or as my teacher starts talking about one, I whip out my planner and write it down on the monthly! If it is a multi-step project, I write it down on some notepaper that lives in the back of my school planner. When I go to plan in my school planner, I already know some of my assignments and I can plan accordingly. This is a crucial step to planning out your homework. Whipping out your planner immediately can feel awkward at times, but it is important that you get everything written down! A Typical School Day & my Homework RoutineOn Monday mornings at school I pull out a sticker book and some highlighters and quickly plan out my week. I first label the boxes with my 6 classes and "After School". The teachers at my school are required to put their plans on their websites, so I quickly check each one to see what I have going on for the week. I also check my monthly, where I should already have assignment info (thanks crucial step)! I take the highlighter color I want to use for the week and I make two highlighter lines to signify assessments such as tests and quizzes. I then write the assessment on top of the highlighter lines. Sometimes I use a box sticker to signify assessments too. I also will use lines and boxes to signify any plans I have such as soccer practice, or one of my sister's band concerts. Now that I can see everything that is going on, I start writing in my to dos. If I see I have a test on Wednesday, then in the Tuesday box I put a highlighter dot and the word "study" next to it. I also will base my to dos off of events. If I have a band concert to watch and a project due Friday, I will write down that I should do the project on Tuesday and Wednesday. I really try to break things down as much as I can! My whole morning planning session usually takes 10 to 15 minutes. I then add to my planner as the day goes on if there are any additional assignments I learn of! When I get home, I generally will get right to work. I check Instagram while having a quick snack, and then I set up shop in my dining room without my phone. It is important to have no distractions while doing your homework because you will do it accurately and quickly if you are not trying to watch Netflix. To keep me focused I try to switch up my space sometimes. I am usually in my dining room because I need a table top, but if I have a reading assignment I will sit on my back deck and read. You could always go to a library or coffee shop some days as well to mix it up. When I have bigger projects that I have to work on each day, I set a 55 minute timer and only work on it then. My classes are 55 minutes long, so I think that another class' worth of work is a good amount. I complete everything on my to do list and depending how long it takes, I take a break for dinner. I also make sure to build in time for any other activities that will give my mind a break, such as taking a walk with my family. No matter if I have more work to do, I would rather stay up an extra 30 minutes than miss out on time with my family and dogs. So Basically...
Thank you for reading, I hope this answers this question for you! It may seem like a lot (it did to me when I was typing it out haha) but it has become second nature for me and it will for you too!
